Midwest Writing Center and CASI team up to offer creative writing classes | Arts & Culture

The Midwest Writing Center and Center for Active Seniors, Inc., both in Davenport, are getting ready to start the second installment of their creative writing classes partnership. The seven week course aims to get attendees into a regularly writing practice through instruction, guest speakers, and in-class writing and feedback. The spring session of the class which runs on seven consecutive Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. starting February 5th at CASI, will focus more on helping participants write their own stories and memories. The class is free; registration can be made by calling CASI at 563-386-7477.
Jodie Toohey will again lead the sessions. Jodie is the owner and operator of Wordsy Woman Word Sales and Service, a professional writing and editing company; author of the young adult novel, Missing Emily: Croatian Life Letters; and two poetry collections, Crush and Other Love Poems for Girls released in 2008 and The Other Side of Crazy to be released by 918studio in September, 2013. Guest speakers will also be joining to talk about their experiences and lead attendees in writing exercises.
The fall session of this MWC and CASI partnership took place from November 13, 2012 through January 8, 2013. Attendees of either or both sessions will be invited to submit work to an anthology to be published late spring or early summer, 2013.
