ROCK ISLAND, Ill.--The annual community-wide celebration and musical tribute to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., will be held Saturday, January 19, at 6 p.m. in Centennial Hall (3703 7th Ave.). The free public event will celebrate the legacy of this great leader through powerful speakers, music and dance.
This year’s celebration will focus on the theme of social justice and Dr. King’s quote, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
The celebration will include performances by the Community Gospel Chorus, the Westbrook Singers, Augustana’s Gospel Choir, and the Truth Temple and Pentecostal Church of God Praise Dancers. The sending will be provided by the Reverend Dwight Ford, director of the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Rock Island.
